Biography

Dr. Mohammad Naymul Hasan completed his MBBS with distinction from Sher-E-Bangla Medical College, Barishal, in 2003. He joined government service in the 25th BCS as Assistant Surgeon in 2006. In 2016 he completed his MD in Gastroenterology from Bangladesh Medical University, Dhaka (PG Hospital), and joined Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College as Assistant Professor the same year. He served as Assistant Professor & Head of the Department of Gastroenterology at Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College & Hospital, Bogura. He is currently Associate Professor (Gastroenterology) at the National Gastroliver Institute & Hospital, Dhaka. He specialises in digestive, liver and pancreatic diseases.

Pioneering Endoscopic Interventions

He was the first Bangladeshi to perform EMR (Endoscopic Mucosal Resection) using the Australian method.
He performs ESD (Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection) using the Japanese method.
Anti-Reflux Mucosectomy (ARMS) is another advanced endoscopic intervention in his practice.

Received the 'APDW Travel Grant Award' 2018 for presenting a scientific paper at Asia Pacific Digestive Week 2018 (APDW), South Korea.
Awarded the title of 'UEG International Scholar 2019' by United European Gastroenterology (UEG).
Received the 'WCOG Travel Grant Award' in Istanbul, Turkey the same year.
Nominated for the 'WEO ERCP Fellowship China' by the World Endoscopy Organisation (WEO) in 2020.
Received the 'APDWF-JGHF Education Grant Award' in 2021 for presenting a scientific paper.
Won the 'International Young Endoscopist Award (IYEA)' and the 'IYEA Outstanding Presentation Award' in South Korea in 2022.
Selected as a 'World Endoscopy Organisation Emerging Star' (WEO Star) and received specialized training in leadership skills in Germany, the USA, and Egypt.
Won the Asian Pacific Society for Digestive Endoscopy (A-PSDE) 'Best Abstract Award' at ENDO 2022, Japan.
Received the 'ASGE Endoscopic Training Award' in 2023; completed higher ESD training at the National Cancer Center (NCC), Tokyo, through an ASGE scholarship.

Endoscopy

An endoscopy is a procedure in which the inside of the body is examined using an instrument called an endoscope — a long, thin, flexible tube with a light and camera at one end. Images from inside the body are viewed on a screen.

Colonoscopy

A colonoscopy is an examination used to detect changes or abnormalities in the large intestine (colon) and rectum. During a colonoscopy, a long, flexible tube (colonoscope) is inserted through the rectum. A tiny video camera at the tip of the tube lets the doctor view the entire inside of the colon.

Polypectomy

A polypectomy is the removal of polyps during a procedure. Colon polyps can be removed through open abdominal surgery, but it is most commonly performed during a colonoscopy. The endoscopist may remove a small polyp with forceps or remove larger polyps with a snare placed around the base of the polyp.

EMR & ESD

EMR stands for Endoscopic Mucosal Resection and ESD stands for Endoscopic Submucosal Dissection. Gastrointestinal EMR and ESD are specialised techniques used to remove larger pre-cancerous lesions or early cancers from the intestine or colon.

ERCP

Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreatography, or ERCP, is a procedure used to diagnose and treat problems of the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts and pancreas. It combines the use of X-rays and an endoscope — a long, flexible, lighted tube.

Interventional Endoscopy

Interventional endoscopy is a general label for endoscopic procedures used to treat various gastrointestinal disorders. These include haemostasis, endoscopic ultrasound, endoscopic mucosal resection, stenting, percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tube placement and photodynamic laser therapy. The field continues to advance and conquer new frontiers.
